Undergraduate Thesis Student (2019-Present)
Global biodiversity is declining due to habitat loss. Protected areas provide a way to prevent this. While most protected areas in Canada are managed by the government, areas managed by other groups provide additional support in the fight against habitat loss. Private protected areas are one of these alternatives, where privately owned land is used for the purpose of conservation. The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is an example of an organization that contributes to the creation of protected areas through land and resource right acquisition. For my undergraduate thesis, I will look at the contributions of NCC to the protection of biodiversity in Canada. To achieve this goal, I will compare species diversity over different land management types in Canada.
